Smiling Faces with our Collective efforts

The class room which we renovated is now colourful and attractive which makes it an enjoyable place for the children. Children’s drawings and paintings, stories, maps now hang on the walls. There are also shelves full of Almirah’s books in one corner and a computer on other side.

Class begins with prayers, meditation and yoga. Class starts at 10 am and finishes at 3 pm. There are now 65 students getting full time education. We are very delighted to be able to this number of students learning as previously there were only 15 to 20. The students are divided into two groups; A and B. In Class A students are learning the equivalent of First – third class in a normal school. In Class B, students learn the equivalent of fourth, fifth and sixth.

Previously the standard of teaching was not as high, but we have pushed to improve the level of education in the home. We have put in an enormous effort, provided personal counseling and provided better teaching and learning resources such as computers, books, pencils and paper.

The students are happy with the improvements and are especially keen to use learn computers. We also introduced three more subjects; history, geography and science and also improved the standard of math being taught. Some of the students show great ability and we will encourage those who wish to progress further with their studies.

One of our volunteers called Mathew has done a lot of recreational activities with the children. He has been involved with painting the walls of living rooms, auditoriums while also making educational drawings on chart. We have also tried to encourage the pupils on proper classroom behaviour with other students and their teachers. Again some can follow the rules well but it will take time to get the full focus of some of the children.

We also encourage the children to get involved in sport and games after school. In class they play chess, carom and ludos and outside, in the evening they play cricket or football.

Sylvia has been appointed as a music teacher and also helps with recreation. She supports us in many activities and helps to organize activities for the children.. She also teaches the tradition Indian dance called Katthak and hopes to create a theatre group which highlight social issues.

The boys have a lot of fun with these activities and it helps to keep their spirits high. Sylvia also sponsored the distribution of milk, curd, biscuits, and fruits for the boys to help them get enough vitamins and proteins. This has an extremely positive impact on their health. All these improvements have changed the boys outlook on their home. Many boys were extremely unhappy in the orphanage, but now slowly they seen happier day by day.

We know still this is not enough but we hope we can improvement the home as mush as possible and bring happiness to the boys living here. We are taking it step by step and would like to thank all who help us everyday.

Thank you
