Child Sponsorship & new Academy in Azamgar
Dfoundation has started an academy in the rural district of Azamgarh in Northern India. Some 70% of the population find themselves in a vicious circle where they live under the rule of rich landlords. They have no choice but to work on the land for very little money or they face starvation. They face a struggle everyday to feed themselves and their families. Most are illiterate farming workers who earn approximately 80 rupee or 1.25 euro per day and can only get work for around 100 days per year. The families of these workers live with no hope of a future, of ever getting an education for their children or finding a way out of their current situation. We believe we can change this however if we can help these families and their children in the correct way.
We understand that education is the single most decisive factor in the development of this
society; to help end the suffering and poverty of these people. If the D-Foundation can
educate the people and particularly the children about their rights, entitlements and
opportunities, we are giving them a chance to build a future for themselves.
We started the academy on order to deal with this issue. The children in the area do not go to school due to financial and traditional reasons. As their families are illiterate, they are unaware of family planning and education. Most of these families live under the debt of the landlords and whole family work for the same landlords just to get food. They are from the lower cast and they are
not cared for by the upper classes or the state.
Even the parents of the children deem education for their children useless because they do not know the benefits. Through the D-Foundation we organized an awareness program in the area and asked the parents to send their children to our academy, particularly the girls. A typical girl is married off when she is 12 or 13 and the young boys start working as laborers when they are 8 or 10. Due to improper nourishment and unhygienic living condition they suffer a great deal. We want to break this cycle of suffering by giving them an education and we are asking for your help.
We are looking for kind hearted people who can help to break this cycle of human
suffering. The lives of these Indian people are unbearable and they need our help. We ask
you to aid us and these warm people by giving us a donation to sponsor a child’s
education. A sponsor like you can help an underprivileged child gain the knowledge of
their basic rights, and give them the skills and confidence they need to change their lives
and those of their families. You will not regret this sponsorship as you see how well the
child is doing and receive monthly reports on your sponsored child’s progress. The
knowledge that you have given this child a real chance in life will stay with you and the
child forever.
Your sponsorship will:
- Help cover the cost of providing a slate, some stationary, basic educational material and transportation to your child and other children in the community
- Help cover the cost of literature for social workers who are able to ensure that the child and the community get their dues like midday meals from the government
- Help erect and maintain a notice board in the school to communicate about the plans and activities of the school
- Help cover the costs of training the school development management committee, made up of parents and teachers, to ensure that their school functions fully
- Help cover the cost of an D-Foundation worker who will ensure your child goes to school and monitors the quality of education in the schools
- Help fund small repairs, whitewashing or even growing plants
What is Child Sponsorship?
- Child sponsorship is a very unique relationship. All our sponsors confess they receive much more than they give!!
- You contribute Rs 1200 (20 euro approximately) a month. Your gift provides a better future for your sponsored child, the child’s family and the community.
- It would give you a sense of fulfillment to be able to change the future of a child and their community.
When you sponsor a child, you will receive:
- A newsletter twice a year or more on how your donation helps
- Annual report on D-Foundation activity.
- A picture and story of your sponsored child.
- Messages directly from your child any time you wish.
- Monthly progress report of the child.
