Chachhu: young boys released from the boys ophanage in Ramnagar
We are happy to inform you that we have succeeded in the release of one of the boys from the orphanage in Ramnagar. He has been released under on request from the D-Foundation and we are now responsible for the care of the boy.
Chachhu is 14 years old and is deaf and dumb. We have known him since we began our work in the government orphanage in 2005 and he is a very friendly and sincere boy. Although communication is not easy, he has indicated for many years that we help him to leave the home. This year, we formally requested his release and we signed the legal paper to take responsibility for him.
From what we know about his history, Chachhu was found in the streets in 2005 by the police. It seems he was homeless and the police could not find his home. On release from the orphanage we also attempted to locate his parents. He seemed quite depressed and was hopeful we may succeed in finding them. He indicated that they lived near a railway station in a tent or small shack. We travelled from station to station but sadly we were not successful.
We eventually gave up and had to inform him that we would find some solution for him. We will help him with everything he needs to settle in life. We contacted the Navavani Centre who are an NGO dealing with deaf children. They advised us that Chachhu will need a hearing machine and that he should get training for sign language and reading.
As we have legal responsibiltiy for Chachhu, we must now try to cover the cost of the hearing aid and training for him. We hope we can find some sponsor for him who will help us in this worthy cause. Without support, Chachhu really has little hope in life.
The hearing aid will cost approximately 4000 (depending on the model) and training fee is 2000 rupees per month.
He is staying with our chairman Hair Om and his family for now as he needs a family atmosphere as he becomes familiar with the outside world again. So far he is coping well and progressing day by day.
We ask for support for Chachhu so we can provide for his future and allow him to have a life as normal as possible.
