Urgent help required for flood victims in Bihar in India
Bihar, one of the poorest states in India, is struck by the biggest flood ever. Many people have lost their lives. Millions have lost their homes and other belongings and have sheltered here and there. Hundreds of thousands of people in flood-ravaged Bihar trudged or took a ride on any means of transport to escape the waters of the turbulent Kosi river as government agencies and the army evacuated more than 300,000 marooned people by Saturday.
Thousands of people are in urgent need of food and medical assistance. Many are dying or may die because of hunger or proper medical treatment. The prime minister of India has declared it a national calamity and released fund for the flood victims. The state government has issued an appeal to relief agencies to step in and help get relief to the flood-affected. However, many affected people say they have not received any government help.
Many agencies have also announced fund assistance for these people. We are planning to send a team of 12 volunteers which include doctor, cook and other relief workers. We are looking for an agency which can sponsor our team under its banner. We are sure to provide best possible relief work in given resources. We have well motivated volunteer team eager to help human kind. It is our plan establish a camp in the area sheltered by flood victims. We will start a catering there and provide food to these people. We will have a doctor in our team who will look after the patients.
Things which are urgently required
- Plastic tent
- Food packs for 2-4 weeks and nutritional supplement to the severely malnourished children, women and men, pregnant mothers.
- Safe packed drinking water
- Halazone tablets for disinfecting potable water
- Food grains
- Essential medicines (nutritional supplement, Halazone tablets, ORS packets etc.)
